Germany Qualify for Last-16 with 2-0 Win Over Hungary
Musiala and Gundogan Lead German Charge
Hosts Germany booked their place in the last-16 of the UEFA EURO tournament on Monday with a convincing 2-0 victory over Hungary at the Allianz Arena. Young star Jamal Musiala gave Germany the lead in the 11th minute with a clinical finish, while Ilkay Gundogan added a second in the 53rd minute to seal the win.
Hungary, who sprang a surprise by beating Germany in the UEFA Nations League last year, put up a spirited fight but were ultimately outclassed by the tournament hosts. Captain Adam Szalai led the Hungarian attack with a tireless performance, but his side lacked the cutting edge to truly trouble the German defense.
Germany's victory ensures they finish top of Group F and will face the runners-up from Group E in the last-16. Hungary, meanwhile, will have to settle for third place and will look to bounce back in their remaining group match against England.
